Happy New Year in advance!

Dec 31, 2024, 9:00 AM | Article By: EDITORIAL

After midnight 31 December 2024, people around the globe will welcome a New Year 2025.  It is a moment of celebration for many across the globe. However, it is also a moment to reflect on that past and give thanks and praises to Almighty God for all the successes, challenges and also guiding and seeing us through 2024.

To the celebrant, let’s prepare to celebrate the fest responsibly. Let's avoid vices that would defeat the purpose of our celebrations.

Since it's yet the beginning of another New Year, let's not forget to set out for ourselves new resolutions as customary in every New Year.

Across the globe, New Year fest is characterised with fun filled memories and visits to friends and families. Thus, it is a moment when families gather to enjoy a good and special time with their loved ones and also make new friends.

From parties and outings with friends and families, there is even much more to explore during this end of year fest.

After all these parties, let's not forget to work on our new year resolutions.

Some of these resolutions are accomplished while others experience setbacks. However, what is important in life is perseverance, dedication and never forget to make efforts and leave the rest with Almighty God.

Going further, as we are about to kiss goodbye to 2024, let's reflect on the challenges and gains registered.

Generally, 2024 has been a challenging year; from skyrocketing commodity food prices, depreciation of the local currencies, surge in crime rate and other economic hardships, which impacts are felt across.

While the global food chain continues to rise exponentially with many attributing the Russia-Ukraine conflict and other unrest elsewhere around the globe, these emerging conflicts pose serious problems to world peace and economies.

The continuing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for years, has increased food prices at the world market, while increasing demand at the same time.

At the home front, the past year has witnessed some reported increase in violent crimes, but we must commend the Gambia Police Force (GPF) for their swift response and in some instances arresting culprits. This alone goes to show the talent and dedication of GPF in registering remarkable breakthroughs and for their timely response.

As we approach yet another year, let's not only reflect on the gains made, but also challenges and set ourselves a vision to chart a way forward.

For authorities, this is a perfect moment to contemplate on good reforms. The government needs to refocus more on its reform agenda and bring about robust development.
