Some businessmen seized the opportunity to increase basic commodities without tangible reasons.
The government should organise a round table with officials of the Ministry Trade, Finance, GPA, GRA, Chambers of Commerce and importers to identify key areas which affect the cost of basic commodities.
Mr. President, the importance of appointing a minister of trade cannot be emphasised. The post has been vacant since May 4th and people are asking why this delay since there are many Gambians who can fill the post.
We need a trade minister urgently to tackle the issue of the high cost of living.
Mr. President, the government should deal with landlords who keep increasing rent every six months.
Government must take action to come to the aid of the tenants to solve their problems.
Mr. President, Transport is still a nightmare for the public because drivers are still charging double fares for one destination which is still too expensive for commuters to continue paying.
Members of the transport Union and the police should work out modalities to eliminate that trend which affects people's lives.
Government should do its best to support GTSC for easy transportation of commuters.
Police Traffic should get more staff working morning and afternoon shifts to eliminate the traffic jam.
When travelling with your Presidential motorcade, the traffic should not close for long, as people are complaining bitterly about the closure of the roads which takes very long.
Finally, Mr. President, your government should take stringent measures for public servants or institutions mismanaging government funds.
Both the Auditor General and members of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly highlighted numerous financial mismanagements of government funds amounting to millions of dalasis.
You should engage officials of the Attorney General and the police to deal with the reports of financial malpractises by public servants and institutions. Actions must be taken.
Good day!
