Woman arraigned for alleged theft

A woman was recently arraigned before Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with stealing from a dwelling house.

Ida Kumba Drammeh pleaded not guilty of the charge and was subsequently granted bail of D750,000 with two Gambian sureties, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.  She was also ordered to surrender her travelling documents.

According to the charge sheet, on 19 September 2010, at Kanifing East Layout in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused, Ida Kumba Drammeh, stole from the house of Honourable Fatou Mbye, the following: one chain matriarch valued at $500, one big pendant valued at $3,000, one pendant (heart shaped) and small earrings valued at £350, one chain and pendant valued at $1,000, earrings valued at $500, one set of white gold chain, earring bracelets and finger-ring valued at $2,500, finger-ring (big) valued at $750, one chain and pendant (kaba) valued at $1,900, one earring (medium) valued at $300, one earring (Galam small) valued at $250, one watch valued at D1,000, different currencies of  physical cash of £250, $2,000, fiscal €3,000, and D61,500; one bangle valued at $1,900 and a set of necklace, earring and two bangles valued at D10,000. The total value of items stolen is D737,500, all being the property of the said Hon. Fatou Mbye.

The case was adjourned till 14 February 2011.
