One Hawa Bah who was recently arrested by the police at Brikama, for concealment of her newly-born baby, has told the Brikama Magistrates' Court that it was a mistake to conceal the birth of her own child.
She was responding to a question posed by the presiding Magistrate, Emmanuel Ipekea, who asked the accused why she concealed the birth.
According to the particulars of the offence, the accused person, Awa Bah, on 20th February 2010 at Brikama Sanchaba in the Western Region unlawfully concealed giving birth to a baby and secretly disposed of her delivered child.She pleaded guilty to the charge, and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D2, 000, in default to serve six months in prison.
