The Gambia will be undergoing a preliminary round qualifiers in which if qualified they would be taking part in the continental cup due to be held in Tunisia in March next year, according to Musa Cassa Taal, president of the Gambia Volleyball Association.
The 17-man delegation is headed by Sergeant Dembo Camara and the team coached by Ebrima Nyass, who will be assisting the boys during the tournament.
“Participating in the tournament will expose the young Gambian talents,” he pointed out.
The zone II countries will include The Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde.
The African teams will be played through three phases: sub-zonal, zonal and final phase (where sub-zonal will be organised with 4 to 5 countries).
In another development, Yunusa Faye, a referee, is currently in Dakar to attend a referee course, Mr Taal said, adding that Faye will also be co-opted into the Zone II referees Commission.
