The Gambia U-17 team currently on a one month training camp in Egypt are expected to wrap up their preparatory campaign in Egypt and will head for Algeria on March 16th 2009 ahead of the opening of the final of the 8th U-17 championship in Algeria two days later.
The team, which left Banjul February 16th is currently engaged in intensive training at a training camp in Egypt, and have already carried out a series of test matches.
The baby scorpions have been pitted in group A alongside Cameroon, Guinea Conakry and host Algeria.
The four semi-finalists in the Algeria tournament, scheduled between March 19 and April 3, will qualify for the 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be played in Nigeria later this year.
The Darling Scorpions, who beat Guinea 2-0 in a friendly match played in Banjul recently, will open their group game with the same side on March 19, in Zeralda. The team will also take on Cameroon on March 22, before their final group campaign against hosts Algeria on March 25.
