Senior officials drawn from various ministries last Thursday concluded a three-week training on government communication tools at the Management Development Institute (MDI) in Kanifing.

The training, organised by the Personnel Management Office (PMO) in collaboration with MDI, was funded through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.

The programme aimed at enhancing the capacity of government officials to promote effective service delivery, especially when dealing with cabinet papers, minutes writing, strategic management and related aspects.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dawda Fadera, chairman of MDI board of directors, thanked MDI for the manner in which they handled the programme and President Yahya Jammeh for initiating it.

For policy development to be effective, there had to be adequate capacity building at their level, he told senior government officials.

“The training will continue,” he assured them, urging participants to share the knowledge gained from the training with their colleagues so they could change the public service.

For his part, Alieu Jarju, deputy director general of MDI, said capacity building is part and parcel of their life hence they should not joke with it.

He also appealed to the participants to continue to capacitise themselves, adding that the doors of MDI are open to everyone.

“If you don’t have the skills on data analysis reform, there is no way you can survive in this world,” he stressed.
