Thief gets mandatory sentence

A 24 year-old, Bakary Manka, a native of Mariama Kunda, was recently convicted and sentenced to a mandatory jail term of one year by Magistrate Babucarr Secka of the Bundung Magistrates' Court for theft.

Magistrate Secka stated that he would make an order for the convict to serve his sentence at the juvenile wing of Old Jeshwang Prisons so that he can be enrolled in the Vocational Training Centre. As he put it, the convict had earlier told the court that he was a school dropout.

According to the particulars of offence, the convict on 15th February 2010, at Wellinkama Village, in Kombo North, stole the following items: one wheel barrow, two flush toilet and two cartons of floor tile, all valued at D7, 800, being the property of Bakary Yafa.

 The convict admitted to the charges preferred against him, as well as the facts as narrated by the prosecuting officer, Sergeant Fatty.
