Spotlight on Governor Touray

Hello and warm welcome to yet another scintillating edition of personality of the week, your weekly column aimed at bringing prominent Gambian top notches and achievers into the lime light.

As stated in our last edition, this column has and will continue to bring you profiles of the giants in today's Gambia. In our today's edition, we bring you the profile of a man who is no other person than Alh. Ganyie Touray a dedicated and able Governor of Central River Region.

Of Course some are born great, some achieved greatness and some have greatness trusted upon them but for this man, Alh. Ganyie Touray a shining example in today's Gambia has achieved greatness. There is no denying that in the history of any country, successive generations must have individuals who serve as pillars of society, talk of the country and of course some extra ordinary men and women who provide inspiration to young upcoming and promising nationals of the state. Alh. Ganyie Touray belongs to this phylum of people in today's Gambia.

Governor Touray is a man whose vision and mission for this country makes him stand out as a key stakeholder in the socio-economic development of this country.

The calm and down to earth Ganjie Touray is today a trend setting educationist whose outstanding contributions to national development covers such diverse fields as relief aid, education, health, religious activities, rural and community development.

Alh. Ganjie Touray was born on the 24th December in 1950 in Ballangharr village in Lower Saloum district.

Governor Turay today holds higher Diplomas in Business management and Auditing, and in food, accommodation and liquor studies.

Governor Touray started his educational Journey at BallangharrPrimary School from 1957- 1963, then later Kaur from 1963-1967, then to CrabIslandJuniorSecondary School 1967 to 1969.

Where he proceeded to GambiaHigh School from 1959 to 1973 where he obtained general certificate of education G.C.E. O'Levels.

From 1975 to 1977 he obtained a certificate in bookkeeping and accounts, cooperative laws and Secretariats practice. In80 he enrolled in LoughbouroughCollege, where he obtained his higher Diploma in Business Management and Auditing.

From 1965 to 1986 he went for his higher Diploma in food, accommodation and liquor studies in MetropolitanCollege.

Because of his hard work commitment and love for the job and ones country he had served in various positions in different departments.

He began his Journey into Business from scratch climbing through the ladder rising up through dint of diligence, determination and discipline to admirable position of Governor of Central River Region. He is described as strategic, thoughtful, organized, compassionate, saintly, incorruptible, pious and honest to goodness. This man is a lot more than what he seems. For him he believes he is only accomplished part of his vision is loyally serving his country where ever duty calls.

From 1975 to 1977 he served as cooperative Secretary, from 1982 to 1984 he held the position of purchasing and clearing officer seagull-fishers.

In 1984 to 1985 he became the sales manager for Western Motors, from where he rose to the position of senior project officer for Pan-African organization from 1987 to 1991. From 1991 to 1994 he was made the sales Agent under the ministry of Agriculture, where he later became the Assistant General Manager Badala Park Hotel from 1994 to 1996.

As educationist he also held the position of District field officer in Uatocarbau District in viqueque, also served as political affairs officer responsible for viqueque region, constitutional affairs officer for viqueque region and later redeployed as district administrator in Democratic Republic of Congo by United Nations in the Transitional Administration in Eastimor. Alh. Ganjie Touray these various portfolios until his appointment came as the governor for central River Region in June 2007.

He is happily married with caring lovely and supportive wives and children, Mr. Touray is a man who can be easily recognized in public by virtue of his humility and down to earth attitude. His friends and close associates opines that he is remarkable hard to find patriot. Governor Touray is also no doubt an asset not only to this country but also to the African continent and of course the rest of the world.

 Of course his name will remain in the history books of this country as a man whose immense contribution to nation building has and continues to earn him critical acclaim both in the country and beyond. His love and attitude towards his work gives surge and confidence and spurs growth and greatness in the lines of the willing.

This underlined his praise and honour as a loyal and hardworking man worthy of emulate.
