Magistrate Dago of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Pa Jaiteh to a fine of D30, 000 in default to serve two years in prison.
Pa Jaiteh, who admitted to the charge of stealing from a motor vehicle, was also ordered to compensate the complainant D50, 500, in default to serve another three years in prison.
The facts of the case as narrated before the court stated that it happened on 5 October 2012, at Jimpex, when the complainant parked his vehicle with the registration number BJL 7782F and locked all the doors and went to Jimpex mosque for Friday prayers.
The facts added that the accused, Pa Jaiteh, got into the said vehicle and stole a laptop marked Toshiba, another laptop marked HP, a designer contact lens, a Qcell data card and one hard disc.
The complainant later reported the matter to the Kanifing Estate Police Station and was accompanied by two detective police officers, and the accused was arrested and taken to the said station where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
According to the charge sheet read in court, in October 2012 at Jimpex, the accused stole from a motor vehicle with the registration number BJL 7782F the following: a laptop marked Toshiba valued at D15, 000, a laptop marked HP valued at D28,000, a designer contact lens valued at $500, equivalent to D15,000, a Qcell data card valued at D2,500 and one hard disc valued at D5,000, being the property of one Ansumana Touray.
