Confirmed reports reaching this paper, revealed that Mamburay Njie, the former minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, was yesterday released by the police in Banjul.
Mamburay Njie was reportedly arrested on October 31st 2012.
When contacted, the police public relations officer, ASP Kujabi, confirmed the release of the former minister, and said that he was arrested over certain issues details of which he could not give to this paper.
An economist and international affairs specialist with over two decades of experience in country economics, international appraisal and public sector administration and management, Mr. Njie started his career as a cadet economist at the then Ministry of Finance and Trade.
He was at one time Secretary-General and Head of the Civil Service, and had been appointed as an Ambassador-at-large and previously held many senior positions in government.
Meanwhile, this paper tried to ascertain the reason why he was arrested and for his subsequent release, but to no avail.
