Maccassa FC on Sunday beat SV Laar FC by a goal to nil to lift the knockout trophy of Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) sponsored by Gamcel.
Kebba Kujabi scored the only goal of the game for Maccassa FC in the 42nd minute of the game played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
As winner, Maccassa went home with a trophy and a cash prize of D20,000 while runners-up SV Laar collected a consolation prize of D15,000.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Alieu Secka, head coach of Maccassa, said his aim was to win both trophies for the team this year but he accepted the fate of winning one.
He said SV Laar eliminating them in the quarterfinals stage of the league competition does not mean they are a better team than his side but were just lucky.
They prepared very well for the final, he said, while thanking the fans for their support.
Essa Tamba, head coach of SV Laar, said they prepared tactically for the final but the goal they conceded was due to lack of concentration.
They had their chances but could not capitalize on them, he also said, commending his players, who are academy players, for putting up good performance against Maccassa FC, a big team of seasoned players.
“We have a bright future because we are a young team,” he said, adding that they have nothing to lose because their players are young.
He urged the fans to accept the defeat and be patient because the final can only be won by one team.
