The Bakau Zonal Sports Committee (BZSC) has unanimously agreed to impose a heavy ban and fine on Mamakoto Football Club for what the authorities called the club’s role in bringing the Nawetan match into disrepute, Pointsport can confirm.
The Committee at its meeting held at the weekend decided to slap a heavy ban on the team kicking them out of the Nawettan for the rest of the season.
The punishment also includes a heavy fine of D8,750 handed down on Mamakoto by the BZSC.
The Committee’s decision came hot on the heels of a controversial attack on the central referee by players, fans and team officials of Mamakoto FC.
They were also found guilty for being entirely responsible for a brawl that halted their match against Julangel last Friday, as evident on the reports of the referees and eyewitnesses of the encounter.
The full text of the Committee’s letter to Mamakoto FC reads: Following the unwarranted disturbances by members of your club on the 14th of October 2011, during your match against Julangel FC, the Bakau Zonal Sports Committee as the body responsible for the management and coordination of football in Bakau has duly read the referees’ report and listened to the eyewitness’s reports on the violence.
Your players, officers and fans are found guilty of insulting, attempted assault, confronting security officers, match officials, and committee members as well as vandalism or destruction in relation to the properties of the BZSC. On the basis of these reports we have with effect from today, the 15 day of October 2011 decided to ban your club and all its members from participating in any tournament organised by the BZSC and its sister recognised Nawetan zones for the rest of the season.
In addition, you are fined the sum of GMD 8,750 for the damages caused to our materials (namely: Goal net, ball, table, and corner post).
Failure in the payment of which will tantamount to your continued disqualification from participating in tournaments organised by the aforementioned zones.
Furthermore, you are penalized by 3 points and 2 goals in favour of Julangel FC for the invasion of the field in the 75th minute of the match and therefore bringing the match into disrepute. This is per the provision of the rules and regulations of the tournament.
The following players and officers of your club (Momodou Lamin Makalo number 5, Musa Baldeh number 8, Ebrima Tunkara number 10, and the so-called Amsorry) are further banned from participating in any tournament organised by the BZSC and its sister GFA recognised zones for an additional one year (2012 season).
They are also fined the sum of GMD 1,000.00 each, failure in the payment of which will tantamount to their continued disqualification from participation in tournaments organised by the aforementioned zones.
This is as a result of their principal and direct role in causing the violence and damages to properties belonging to the committee.
The Committee used the opportunity to send a strong warning signals to the rest of the participating teams to desist from such uncalled for behaviours, which has no place in our football.
