The
2016 Super Nawettan champions Gunjur are set to accommodate only sixteen teams
for the 2017 nawetan season due to the limited playing days available for the
town’s summer biggest football fiesta, according to news emanating from Gunjur
Sports Committee.
The
news was announced by Momodou Charreh Jibba, the first vice-president of Gunjur
Sports Committee, who also doubles as head of the competition.
Jibba
said the committee can accommodate only sixteen teams due to the limited
playing time.
He
revealed that there will be qualifiers and teams should go and prepare
themselves for the qualifiers despite them being late.
Mr
Jibba further revealed that everything is late and congress is not hold, adding
that probably the nawetan will start in August.
Jibba
pointed out that from August to October is 60 days, noting that they have 53
playing days’ 31 league matches and 15 knockout matches.
According
to Jibba, the Super Nawetan will start in October that will be followed by the
second division league and as such, they cannot play nawetan while Gunjur is
taking part in the second tier.
