Gunjur natives in the Diaspora on 28 July 2013 donated health materials to Gunjur Health Centre, as part of their contribution towards the development of the health sector.
The donated items included beds, mattresses and bed sheets.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held in Gunjur, the Alkalo of Gunjur, Alhagie Sulayman Touray, commended Gunjurians abroad for the benevolent gesture.
Alkalo Touray prayed for the donors to have peace, happiness, good health and long life.
The Councillor of Gunjur Ward, Karamo Joran Bojang, hailed Gunjurians in the Diaspora for the gesture.
The donation complements government’s efforts at developing and maintaining a comprehensive health sector.
The chairman of Gunjur Village Development Committee, Demba Jobe Touray, said Gunjurians in the Diaspora are really willing to render more support to the village, adding that Gunjur VDC received D32,000 from Gunjurians abroad to rehabilitate a market road in the town.
Ebrima Ceesay, a nurse at the Gunjur Health Centre, expressed their appreciation with the donation and the efforts of the VDC and the health centre.
Gunjur Health Centre, which is the only major health centre in Kombo South, with a wide coverage, receives 50 to 60 patients daily.
Ceesay used the opportunity to lament the water constraint in the area as a big problem for the health centre, hence appealed to the community to help them to solve the problem.
Binta Saidy, also a nurse at the Gunjur Health Centre, said the roofs of the wards and staff quarters at the centre are leaking.
She therefore called on the villagers to help them to do something about it.
