GFA gets new technical committee

Jun 3, 2011, 2:51 PM

Ousainou Darbo, Gambia Football Association executive committee member from Banjul, is now the chairman of the football association's nine-man technical committee.

The committee, which acts as liaison between the technical director, the national teams coaches as well as the GFA executive committee, was formerly headed by Musa Njie.

Former Youth and Sports director Cherno Barra Touray is the vice chairman and the GFA's assistant secretary Abdou Salaam Jammeh is the secretary of the committee.

Kebba Masaneh Ceesay, GFA technical director, Abdoulie Jallow (Star), former national team captain, and Essa Faye, former national team player and professional, are also members of the committee.

Other committee members are Pa Suwareh Faye, Alhagie Darboe of the Senior Secondary School Sports Association, and the GFA regional coordinator.

The GFA executive will now rely on the committee, which has not been in operation for nearly two years, to meet at least once every month during the football season to communicate all adopted resolutions through its chairman.

The committee is mandated to organise training courses, identify structures for use of the national teams and clubs, and create an environment conducive for the national teams coaches to identify young talented footballers for selection.

It is also the role of the committee to monitor foreign-based players in collaboration with the head coach and the technical director with the view to coordinating their selection into the national team.
