Four in Court over Fake Euro Cheque

Four men were on Monday granted court bail in the sum of D10, 000,000 (Ten Million Dalasi) each with two Gambian sureties with landed properties valued at D1, 000,000 situated within the Greater Banjul area.

Abdou Ngum, Lamin Dibba, Ababacarr Drammeh and Momodou Gaye were arraigned for allegedly conspiring to deposit a fake Euro cheque, valued at D9, 743, 726. 72 into an account at Ecobank.

They were arraigned before Acting Principal Magistrate, Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay, at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court on two counts of conspiracy to defraud and attempt to commit an offence.

According to the charge, the accused persons on or about the 30th October 2008, with intent to defraud, jointly conspired to deposit a fake Euro cheque into an account at Eco Bank.

However, the accused persons could not take their pleas on grounds that they are yet to secure legal representation.

The case was adjourned to 8th April 2009.
