Forestry Group awards Brikama Area Council

The Kombo-Foni Forestry Association (KOMFFORA) based in Kafuta, Kombo East on Monday awarded the Brikama Area Council with a certificate in recognition of the council's efforts in promoting sustainable forest development in the country.

Speaking at the occasion held at the office of the Chief Executive Officer of the council, Mr. Saikou Janko, the President of KOMFFORA said the council has been supportive of the programmes of KOMFFORA over the years. He described the council as a key partner in funding forest management and conservation activities in the region. He said his association is an umbrella body of community forest associations in the Western Region.

Mr. Janko noted that KOMFFORA is engaged in tree-planting exercise and anti-bush fire initiatives in four districts in the Western Region and raising awareness on good environmental practices.

In receiving the certificate, the CEO of Brikama Area Council, Mr. Momodou Jallow expressed delight at the recognition of the efforts of his council by KOMFFORA and applauded the forestry body for protecting the forest. Mr. Jallow assured that his council would continue to assist KOMFFORA in its future initiatives.

The Director of Finance of Council, Mr. Momodou NT Cham expressed similar sentiments. Members of KOMFFORA and Public Relations Officer of BAC, Modou Jonga, attended the ceremony.

Also on the same day, the New Executive Committee of the Kombo Central Youth and Sport Committee, accompanied by the new Regional Sport Co-ordinator paid a courtesy call on Brikama Area Council.

Speaking at the occasion, the youth representative in the council, Mr. Cherno Jawla said the purpose of the visit was to acquaint themselves with authorities of the council.

Mr. Babun Fatty, the Chairperson of the Kombo Central Youth and Sports Committee said the courtesy call was meant to strengthen the already cordial relationship that exists between his committee and council over the years.

Mr. Mamud Jawla, new Regional Sport Co-ordinator, who doubles as Regional Youth Officer expressed delight at the support rendered by the committee to his council.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Brikama Area Council, Mr. Momodou Jallow urged the new executive committee to be responsive to the needs of the youths in the area. Mr. Jallow noted that his council has over the years been supportive to youth related activities. He cited the need to develop sport from the grassroots to enhance sustainability.

Mr. Modou Jonga, the Public Relations Officer of BAC commended the committee for the courtesy call and urged the executive committee to live up to expectations.
