The Banjul Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Jallow yesterday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of one Lamin Touray, coordinator and financial controller of the Sustainable Land Management Project (SLMP).
Mr Touray was indicted on a single-count of economic crime to the tune of D23,474,481.
The accused person was not in court when the case was called, and prosecutor A. Jobe made an application for a bench warrant to be issued for his arrest, and to be brought before the court on the next adjournment date.
The application was granted by the trial magistrate.
The particulars of offence stated that Lamin Touray, between the year 2013 and 2014 in Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia, as SLMP project coordinator and financial controller/procurement officer, “intentionally demonstrated financial indiscipline with public funds” by signing 64 contracts worth D23,474,481, which has cost an economic loss to The Gambia, and thereby committed an offence.
The case was adjourned to 24 June 2015.
