Alleged Terrorism Case Adjourned

The trial of sixteen people (Eleven Senegalese and five Gambians) who were recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates' Court, charged with an alleged offence of terrorism was yesterday adjourned to 8th July 2009.

Alasan Thomas Jarju, Maulud Badjie, Lasana Prosper Sambou, Ousman Jarju, Mansur Jatta, Sedat Jatta, Dawda Jatta, Fabia Nyafuneh, Pap Ousman Badjie, Abdoulie Jatta, Muminu Bah, are all Senegalese, while Samsideen Jammeh, Kebba Secka, Kemo Conteh, Sam Kambai and Abdoulie Jarju, are Gambians charged under Section 3(1) of the Anti Terrorism Act of 2002.

The particulars of the offence states that Alasan Thomas Jarju and his co-accused persons on or about 8th August 2006, at Dasilameh and diverse places, jointly conducted or engaged themselves in an unlawful act, which could have seriously destabilised or destroyed the foundation, political, constitution, economic and social structures of The Gambia.

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

At the last hearing of the case, the presiding magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh remanded the accused persons in custody.
