Police have extended their
crackdown on two news outlets, urging their immediate shutdown as they
broadcast the protest that was spearheaded by the Operation 3 Years Jotna – a
pressure group demanding President Adama Barrow’s resignation.
The movement staged a
peaceful protest which turned violent on Sunday resulting to the arrest of tens
of protesters.
The two radios were King FM
and Home Digital FM.
Saikou Jammeh, the secretary
general of the Gambia Press Union (GPU) confirmed the development to The Point,
saying the two radio stations were reporting the Sunday protest before they
were asked to cease operations.
Mr. Jammeh further confirmed
that Sankuleh Janko of West Africa Democracy Radio, which is based in Dakar was
attacked by 3 Years Jotna with his mobile seized.
