A
Thomas Cook flight yesterday landed at Banjul International Airport with 233
(two hundred and thirty-three) UK tourists on board.
This
has come as more tourist are returning to The Gambia to enjoy their holidays,
following the end of the political impasse that gripped the country recently.
The
aircraft was received on arrival by the officials of The Gambia Tourism Board,
tour operators, as well as journalists.
The
tourists were also entertained by a cultural group.
Speaking
to journalists shortly after the landing of the airbus, Abdoulie Hydara,
GTBoard director-general, said more tourist flights are expected in the country
for tourists to enjoy their holidays in The Gambia.
Flights
were suspended due to the political impasse in the country, but “thank God this
has come to an end, and operations have restarted”, Hydara said.
The
GTB director general told journalists that his office is working hard with tour
operators to ensure more tourists come back to the country.
Adama
Njie, director of Marketing at the Gambia Tourism Board, said the arrival of
the Thomas Cook flight to The Gambia is a good sign that the tourist season
would recover its losses.
He
added that more marketing had been done to sell the destination, and the
GTBoard would work hand in glove with tour operators to bring back tourists to
the destination.
Meanwhile,
a Correndon flight also flew in with their first set of tourists coming
immediately after the political impasse.
