Seven arraigned for criminal trespass

Seven men were recently arraigned before Principal Magistrate Abeke of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with criminal trespass and person found armed with intent to commit a felony.

The accused persons are Sadibou Jarju, Samba Jallow, Ebrima Kassama, Ebrima Nyassi, Sulayman Colley, Bakary Jarju and Musa Badjie, who have all denied the charges.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, on 24 June 2011, at Babylon Village, Kombo North District, West Coast Region, the seven accused persons erected two tents in the land of Manneh Kunda of Mandinary Village, with intent to intimidate them, thereby caused the breach of peace.

The charge sheet on count two read that on the same date and place the accused persons were found armed with four cutlasses and one knife, with intent to commit a felony.

Meanwhile, all the accused have denied the charges and were each granted court bail of D10,000 with two Gambian sureties for each. The sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit valid ID cards at the court.

Hearing continues on 20 July 2011.
