Mobile thief gets mandatory sentence

Magistrate Bubacarr Secka of the Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Kalifa Taal to three months in prison with hard labour for the offence of theft.

According to the facts of the case, as narrated by the police prosecutor, Sgt. 1260 Colley, it happened on 23rd April 2010, when the accused was arrested and taken to Brikama Police Station.

He narrated that a search was conducted by a CID Officer and a Nokia mobile phone 1100 was found with him.

Sgt Colley further narrated that when the phone later rang, the caller was invited to the station where she explained how her mobile got lost.

According to him, the convict later confessed of stealing the mobile phone from the vehicle, and was subsequently cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
