The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions under the Attorney-General's Chambers yesterday arraigned one Gibril Saidy before the Special Criminal Court of the High Court in
Gibril Saidy was alleged to have attempted to overthrow the government of The Gambia on 25 December 2009, by soliciting assistance from military personnel on duty at Yundum Army Barracks in the Western Region.
However, the accused could not take his plea due to the lack of a defence counsel, prompting the trail judge, Justice Moses Richards, to order the state to provide the accused person with legal representation.
Meanwhile, the accused was remanded in custody, before the case was adjourned to 11 March 2010 for trial.
