Monday, October 04, 2010

President Yahya Jammeh has married a second wife, a young lady by the name Ms Alima Sallah, daughter of Omar Gibril Sallah and Mrs Zahra Sallah, a press release from the Office of the President has announced.

Ms Alima Sallah, according to the release sent to this paper, now goes by the title Lady Alima Yahya Jammeh.

"She is not to be addressed as the First Lady because, according to protocol, there can only be one First Lady and, in this case, that is Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh," the statement said.

It added: "This also serves as official notification to all the Diplomatic Missions accredited to the country, our Embassies abroad, countries around the world, as well as friends and well wishers."

The Office of the President went on to express its "profound gratitude to all Gambians and non-Gambians alike for their continuous support and solidarity with the First Family from 1994 to date".

It also solicits the continuous prayers and support of all Gambians and non-Gambians alike, as they welcome a new member to the First Family.
