Interior thrash Starlight in GFA 2nd Division Opener

Interior on Sunday defeated the newly promoted side Starlight 2-0 in the 2011-2012 Gambia Football Association (GFA) division two league opening game played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

Interior opened the score through Seedy Saidy in the 32nd minute of the game from a superb header to give his side the lead.

Modou Gaye netted the second goal in the 63rd minute dashing Starlight’s hopes of coming back to their feet.

Starlight brought in several fresh legs and fought back for an equaliser but could not break through Interior’s solid defence line; thus the game ended 2-0 in favour of Interior.

Elsewhere, Serrekunda East were held to a goalless draw by Banjul United at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day.

Tallinding United made a fine start to the new season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Latrikunda United at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Saturday.

West Coast Region boys Lamin United drew 1-1 with Seaview in the other Week 1fixtures played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda on the same day.

The newly promoted side Gunjur United will clash with Sait Matty at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium today, 3 April 2012 to complete Week 1 fixture.

Interior and Tallinding United have both bagged 3 points in a single game but Interior are leading the table on goal difference.

Lamin United, Seaview , Banjul United and Serrekunda East have all collected single points in single games, while Starlight are rooted at the bottom of the table with zero points in one game.
