Wednesday, September 02, 2009

Awa Trawally, an employee of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) was yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates' Court, charged with "giving false information to a public officer."

She denied the charge before Magistrate Surahata Danso of the Banjul Magistrates' Court.

According to the particulars of the alleged offence, on 8th June 2009, the accused gave false information to the Office of the President at State House in Banjul that there was injustice, sexual harassment and corruption at the Gambia Revenue Authority "Revenue House" in Banjul.

After taking her plea, Magistrate Danso told Ms. Trawally that despite the fact that her counsel was not in court, the court will proceed with the trial, but she begged the court to allow her counsel to be present.

The accused was granted a court bail in the sum of D5, 000.00, with two Gambian sureties, who must have high moral standing in society.

The case was adjourned to 7th September 2009.
