Gambia U-19 in Italy Umbria tourney

The Gambia U-19, which left for Italy at the weekend for the annual Umbria football tournament in Italy, will play Slovenia today Wednesday 8 May in an eight-team tournament.

A total of twenty players and five officials departed Banjul on Sunday 5 May 2013 via Dakar for Italy where they would join counterparts from seven other countries for the one-week tournament, GFA media officer Bakary B. Baldeh has said in a press release.

The young Scorpions were set to open their account against San Marino on Tuesday 7 May in Group A before wrapping up to Umbria on Thursday evening which shall confirm their sailing through to the next round of the tournament.

It would be recalled that The Gambia were invited in the Umbria tournament in 2012 as part of the technical cooperation between Italy and the Gambia Football Federation through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The team and officials are expected to return to Banjul next week.
