Monday, February 16, 2009
Corporal Nyass, a police officer attached to the Bakoteh Police Station on 11th February 2009, testified in the on-going criminal trial involving one Karamba Gassama.

The accused Karamba is alleged to have escaped from a lawful custody at Bakoteh Police Station.

In his testimony, Cpl Nyass told the court that on 19th September 2008, he was on night duty on that fateful day when he saw the accused lying on the foam outside the cell.

He added that when he asked the accused why he was lying outside the cell, the accused told him he was sick that's why he was given that privilege.

PW1 further reveals that to his surprise the accused went behind the station and broke the window of the station and effected his escape. He added that the matter was reported to the authorities, and as a result he and one Matarr Sanneh were given a one-month ultimatum to locate him.

PW1 further stated that they went round all the stations to help them search for the accused and fortunately he was later apprehended in Bakau.

The case was being presided over by Magistrate Kumba Sillah Camara of the Bundung Magistrate Court, and was adjourned to the 17th February 2009.
