Complainant testifies in paint theft case

Lamin Kanteh, a complainant, recently testified before Magistrate Frederick Foster of the Bundung Magistrate’s Court in the theft case involving one Lamin Jasseh, who was alleged to have stolen two drums of paint from the shop of Lamin Kanteh.

Kanteh told the court he is a shopkeeper who sells different materials in his shop, including paints.

He told the court the accused came to his shop and they had a chat, adding that he left the accused in the shop and went to pray and on his return to his shop, he did not find the accused there.

The complainant stated that he later discovered that his drums of paint were missing. He later followed the accused and met him selling drums of paint in the street, he said.

He went to the police to report the matter and the police went to effect arrest on the accused, he added, saying the accused did not sell the paint and he was able to recover his drums of paint.

Under cross-examination, the witness told the court the accused was not beaten at the time of the arrest, stating that the accused admitted the charge at the police level, but he denied it in court.

He said he was familiar with the accused person, as they used to see each other.
