Biggest 440 km relay for Gambia

The Gambia will on April 23rd 2010 host a 440-km relay, the biggest in the country's athletics, starting from Koina to Banjul.

The three-day event which is expected to wrap- up on April 26 is jointly organised by Run for The Gambia, in collaboration with the Department of Youths and Sports, National Sports Council, Gambia Athletics Association and Regional Sports Committees.

A release from the National Sports Council informed Pointsport that all participants would be given certificates and medals. It stated that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best relay teams will be awarded trophies and cash amount of D25,000, D15,000 and D10,000, respectively.

In addition, the release added that accommodation, transportation, medication, security and feeding would be taken care of by the organisers.

Individual athletes can register at D300, regions at D2, 500 for 12 persons with an official, while D5, 000 for 12 people with an official is pegged for interested companies.

Registrations forms for the event can be secured at the National Sports Council, Governor's offices in Western Region, Lower River Region, North Bank Region, Upper River Region, Central River Region and Mayor's Offices in KMC and BCC.

Registration forms are expected to be submitted to the National Sports Council, on or before the 19th April, targeting the first eight teams to register.
