AFCON 2021 qualifiers proper to start in November As Gambia to play away in Angola

Following the completion of the preliminary rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 Qualifiers over the weekend, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced dates for the qualifiers proper beginning in November, 2019.

The continental body has released both the classified fixtures and dates for all the eight (8) in groups of four (4) teams as The Gambia finds itself  in Group D with Democratic Republic Congo, Gabon and Angola with the Scorpions first match scheduled away to Angola on the 13th November, 2019 at Estadio 11 Novembro in Luanda at 20:00hrs.

The Scorpions will fly back to Banjul for their second match of the qualifiers at home to Democratic Republic Congo scheduled for the 18th November, 2019 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

According to CAF, qualifiers will resume in 2020 when The Gambia plays away to Gabon in match day three on the 31st August in Libreville.

Three more matches will be at hand for the Scorpions of The Gambia when they host the Panthers of Gabon later in 2020, the Leopards of DR Congo and the  Palancas Negras of Angola to cap off the series for the rights to be at the Total Afcon 2021 in Cameroon.

Meanwhile the Scorpions players have all left Banjul for their European base club duties after The Gambia edged out Djibouti 3-2 on penalties following a one all draw(2-2 on aggregate) over the weekend at the return and final leg of the preliminary rounds for a spot in Group D qualifiers proper.
