Senior Magistrate Kayode of the Banjul Magistrates' Court is today expected to deliver judgement on the criminal case filed by the State against Ex-Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang.
Ex-Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang, former Government Vehicles Controller at State House, is standing trial on charges of abuse of office and theft.
It was alleged that Sanyang while being employed in the public service of The Gambia as Government Vehicles Controller at State House abused his office by selling without authorisation a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 4591A being the property of The Gambia Government.
He is also alleged to have stolen the sum of D75,000 being the proceeds realised from the sale of the said vehicle BJL 4591A.
In support of their case, the State prosecutors called in four witnesses namely Alhagie Conteh, the buyer of the vehicle in question; ASP Phillip Jarju attached to government Vehicle Control Unit at State House; ASP Fansu Fabureh head of Licensing Department of The Gambia Police Force; and Bakary Bojang of the Serious Crime Unit.
The defence called three witnesses including the accused himself Manlafi Sanyang, Lamin Manneh, the APRC secretary of Lower Fulladu constituency who testified that he was present when the accused handed the amount of D75,000 to Abdoulie Kujabi, former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Malang Dampha who had testified that he was the driver of the vehicle BJL 4591B.
