As part efforts to develop sports at grassroots level, the Brikama Youths and Sports Committee

donated sporting materials worth over D30, 000 to the Regional Education Office in Western Region.

The items, 30 tracksuits and 18 t-shirts, were handed over to the Regional Education Office at a presentation ceremony held yesterday at its headquarters in Brikama.

Speaking at the occasion, Lamin King Colley, Charmain of the Brikama Youths and Sports Committee, said, "One day I was called by the GFA President Seedy MB Kinteh to collect some sports materials from the GFA Technical Training Centre. Among the donated materials are these 30 tracksuits and 18 T-shirts donated today to the Regional Education Office."

He stated that, "we the Regional Sports Committee know that sports cannot develop without the schools as grassroots is the key"

He pointed out that it is part of his agenda to donate some materials to the Regional Education every year.

He stated that, " last year I donated 10 trophies to the office and promised to continue supporting sports in schools especially in the Western Region.

"I take this opportunity to congratulate and thank The Gambia Football Association President Seedy MB Kinteh and Vice President Major General Lang Tombong Tamba," he said.

Famara Kujabi, desk officer for sports in Region 2, spoke on behalf of the director and said the regional office is very grateful to Lamin King Colley who has been supporting sports at a regional level and has made important strides in the development of sports in the region.

He stated that no school or even the regional office can afford to buy the items because of the costs involved adding, "we have welcomed this gesture and call on others to emulate it."

In conclusion, he cited the numerous forms of assistance received from Lamin King Colley at Regional Level geared towards developing school sports.

Aji Mariama Jallow Senior Education Officer   expressed similar sentiments  and expressed gratitude on behalf of schools in Region 2 for the gesture. Another speaker who spoke at the occasion said education is everybody's business and needs collective efforts as well as in the area of  sports development.
