The Brikama
Area Council (BAC) recently dragged Eric Tunde Janneh, the former Alkalo of
Banjulinding and Chief of Kombo North, to the Municipal Court of Brikama Area
Council for tax evasion.
He was last week arraigned for allegedly refusing to pay tax due on his two properties situated in Banjulinding, and on a total of 60 heads of cattle, for many years.
Mr. Janneh has categorically denied the charges.
However the development, in the view of many, will serve as a possible deterrent for would-be offenders and, in the event he is found guilty, a bitter lesson that would most probably drive home the point that tax evasion is a serious crime.
The case continues.
