Ebou Sillah Named Scorpions Team Captain

Friday, May 30, 2008

The head coach of the senior national team Coach, Paul Put, has named Ebou Sillah as the Scorpions team captain as The Gambia takes on Liberi a on Sunday in their first appearance in the 2010 qualifiers.

The decision to award Sillah the Captaincy was made known to journalists yesterday in an interview with Paul Put after the Scorpions test game with the U20's team which ended 2-1 in favour of the Senior national team. Ken Mansally got the first goal after coming on as a substitute. Saine Touray, alias Ballack, leveled the scores for the U20 side, but Mansally again took a powerful shot that went passed the goalkeeper and into the net to give the Scorpions the lead.

Commenting on the game Paul Put said,  "I was not happy with the first half performance we had a better second half than the first half, I told the players to be hungry for the ball and ready to fight".

He explained that the team is going to Liberia with a 4-4-2 formation. " We need to collect the 3 points so we going all out to play we don't have much time to train with the players as most of them came late," he noted.

Put will be traveling with an 18 man squad to Monrovia and the Scorpions will be leaving today 30th of May 2008 at 8.30am with Slok Air. They will be playing on Sunday 1st June 2008 and return back to Banjul the same day.

Meanwhile the Pointsports was reliable informed that the team will be traveling to Liberia with their own food and water.

Gambian international Dawda Bah will not make it for Liberia due to an injury he sustained during training sessions.
