Having enjoyed legislation in support of Taiwan by the National Assembly, the outgoing Taiwanese Ambassador, Dr. Patrick Chang paid a visit to the National Assembly in order to thank them for their support of his country.

In a farewell speech at the National Assembly, Dr. Chang expressed enthusiasm that his successor will continue the work that he has started.  "I hope that my colleague will continue the work and please maintain close contact with my embassy and my colleagues here in the assembly," he told the members of the National Assembly.  He hailed the National Assembly speaker for making this year's state opening of parliament history.  "I just want to say goodbye to you but I assure you that this is not the end, we will keep in contact in the future," he said.

For his part, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Majority leader and Member for Serrekunda East said; "Your name will remain in our minds for the coming generations.  You are a hero."  He reaffirmed The Gambia's continued support of Taiwan and their cause.

Hon. Selou Bah, member from Basse, also commended Dr. Chang for the support The Gambia has enjoyed from Taiwan during his tenure, particularly in the areas of health, education and agriculture.  Hon, Sidia Jatta from Wuli West also acknowledged the support that Gambia continues to receive from Taiwan.

Hon. Abbas Sanyang, the representative of the people of Foni Kansala, whose constituents experienced the generosity of the Taiwanese government in the form of a Senior School, also applauded Dr. Chang.

Hon. Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, Speaker of the National Assembly, who chaired the meeting, assured Dr. Chang of The Gambia's continued support for Taiwan.  She used the occasion to present Dr. Chang with a portrait of President Jammeh and First Lady Madam Jammeh.  For the Honourable Speaker if there is any word in the English Dictionary that she can use rather than thank you to express her appreciation to Dr. Chang she would have used it.
