Sweden-based iconic Gambian reggae artist Demba Conta has died. The late singer passed away recently in Sweden. He is survived by a wife and several children. The iconic singer was born in the 50s in Yonna village in Sami District, Central River Region, before he emerged in the music scene in the 70s.

Conta was a sailor and travelled around the globe. He has produced several albums, including the hits 'Monkey Business', United States of Africa, and Rule the World.

Gambians adore Demba for using music to raise their country’s flag as well as giving back to his country. Demba Conta would be remembered for a lot of good things, including his philanthropy, promotion of culture, patriotism and Pan-African spirit.

“He touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, humour, wisdom and melodies. We grief our father’s departure from this world but celebrate the legacy he leaves behind,” Eddie wrote.
