Youth unemployment is today seen as one of the biggest social challenges facing many countries in the world, and The Gambia is no exception.

It is for this reason, coupled with their mandate of advocating for sustainable employment opportunities for young people in the country, that the Youth Employment Network Gambia Chapter (YEN Gambia) is organising a national forum on youth employment.

The National Youth Employment Network Gambia Chapter is aimed at creating decent job opportunities for the youth of the Gambia, through advocacy and sensitization campaigns. The Gambia chapter is an associate member of the YEN International Network, which has more than 80 national networks worldwide.

According to YEN officials, the one-day national forum called Youth Employment Forum would be held on the 4th of September 2010 at the Alliance Franco Gambienne, starting 9:00 prompt. The forum is intended to be highly participatory and prominent youth activists, youth leaders, young entrepreneurs, government and the private sector representatives are anticipated to attend.

The aim of this forum is to create a platform for youth organizations, young entrepreneurs, investors and government to map a way forward for youth employability, and to empower YEN member organizations with relevant information in creating job opportunities and developing initiatives for youth employment.

Meanwhile, young people across the Greater Banjul Area are being call to participate.
