UTG Observes Students? Week

The University of The Gambia Student?s Union over the weekend observed this year?s students? week, which took place at the FIFA goal project site at Yarambamba Housing Estate in Yundum.

The annual event, which brought together students from different departments in the University, was among others, aimed at enabling students to socialise in a bid to bridge the gap created by the lack of a university campus and to serve as a medium of extending learning and teaching process beyond the confines of the classroom.

The theme for this year?s celebration is ?The role of youths in making The Gambia a self food sufficient state?.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Professor Kah, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of The Gambia called on all students to acquire a piece ofland for farming, and to fulfill the theme for this year?s celebration. He commended President Jammeh for being instrumental in the establishment of the UTG.

For his part, Mr. Ansumana Darboe, the President of the UTG Students Union said that this year?s students? week celebration coincided with the 10thanniversary of the University. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the students to the architect of the July 22ndRevolution, whom he said, is the brainchild of university education in The Gambia.

Mr. Marcel Mendy, the Executive Secretary of the National Youth Council urged the students to make good use of university education since it is not all youths who are lucky to have university education.
