U-17 Team Set For UK Training Camp

Monday, August 31, 2009

The President of the Gambia Football Association (GFA), Seedy MB Kinteh revealed to Pointsport that the U-17 team that is preparing for the forthcoming World Cup in Nigeria is expected to leave Banjul to undergo a one month training camp, slated for 17th September to 15th October 2009.

"We are working so hard to help the team in their preparation ahead of the world mega football showdown, which includes the training camp in the United Kingdom," he stated.

But the GFA supremo is conscious of the fact that the required fund should be in place to help the team prepares much better.

He noted that without support from the public it would be difficult to raise the required funds to help the team undergo the U.K training camp.

The GFA supremo went on to describe the performance of the Darling U-17 team in the recently concluded Pepsi Academy Football Tournament as fantastic where the team became the champions after outclassing Liberty Professionals of Ghana 1-0, thanks to Buba Meles Jallow's only goal.

The Pepsi tournament, he noted, was seen as part of the preparation for the U-17 World Cup which has also availed coaches the opportunity to use the invited players in order to know their standard before getting them to the World Cup.

'I am quite impressed with the outcome of the Pepsi tournament, given the fact that the team was able to snatch all the medals, ranging from the top goal scorer which was awarded to Buba Melez Jallow after banging 6 goals, the best player went to inspirational Saihou Gassama, the team also won both the best defensive and offensive team of the tournament, and more importantly the championship trophy," the elated GFA President highlighted.

He finally expressed hope that the targeted amount of D13m for the U-17 team's preparation ahead of the World Cup in Nigeria can be sorted out if all hands are on deck.
