Monday, June 08, 2009

The National Farmers Platform, The Gambia, in collaboration with VECO Senegal and Feature X Consulting last Thursday 4th June 2009, concluded a two-day capacity-building workshop for 15 representatives from different farming organisations drawn across the country.

The training held at the Christian Council in Kanifing, among others, aimed at strengthening the communication skills of farming organisations.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr, Musa Jawneh, the President of the National Farmers Platform told participants that the importance of the training is information-sharing and communication skills.

Mr. Jawneh urged the participants to utilise the knowledge gained from the programme, noting that the workshop aimed at building the capacity of farmers in the field of communication so as to help them disseminate, as well as use proper methods.

He also expressed optimism that the training will surely bridge the gap of communications barrier farmers face in terms of communication. Mr. Jawneh underscored the importance farmers play in the eradication of food crisis and hunger in any economy.

The lead consultant, Marcellio Teo-oedjre, in his presentation said the general objective of the training was to obtain inter-personal communications for individuals and team contribution to the development of National Farmers Platform, The Gambia.

He said building the communications skills of farmers means identifying and removing all obstacles in the flow of information to reach targeted groups. He said, "achieving this means climbing the ladder towards the real understanding between individuals".
