Sang Ndong unveils squad for AFCON qualifiers against Mauritania

Coach Sang Ndong yesterday named his twenty-man squad for the 2017 Africa Cup Nations qualifiers away to Mauritania on Friday 25 March 2017 in Noahoatte.

Speaking at a press conference at the Gambia Football Federation Secretariat in Kanifing Layout, coach Sang Ndong said the team had ten training sessions with local-based teams from which he selected six players, ten players from Europe and three players from Senegal.

Coach Ndong revealed that Pa Modou Jagne was part of the invited players but he was omitted from the squad due to injury he sustained in an accident.

He also said that Bubacarr Trawally alias Steve was also part of the squad but was omitted from the squad after recently recovering from injury.

Coach Ndong further revealed that they are going to Mauritania to win, adding that the team will camp in Senegal before leaving for Mauritania.

He said the team will leave Banjul on Sunday for Senegal and the foreign-based players are expected to join them in Senegal on Monday and Tuesday for the crucial tie with the Mauritanians.

The twenty players invited for the Mauritania tie are as follows:

Goalkeepers: Alagie Modou Jobe, Niarry Tally and Christopher Allen of GPA.

Defenders: Mass Manga (Hawks), Omar Colley (Djurgardens), Kebba Ceesay (Lech Poznan), Ibou Touray (Rhyl FC), Alieu Jatta (Generation Foot), Gregory Sambou (GPA) and Bubacarr Sanneh (AC Horsens).

Midfielders: Hamza Barry (Hapoel Tel viv), Alagie Bah (Real De Banjul), Kabba Sambou (Stade De Mbour), Lamin Chatty (Hawks), Demba Savage (Hacken) and Muhammed Conteh (Mbour Petite Cote).

Strikers: Omar Jagne (Dalkuld), Pa Amat Dibba (Sunsvall), Modou Secka Barrow (Swansea city), Mustapha Carayol (Leeds United) and Emil Sambou (Gambia Armed Forces).
