St. John School Get Solar Lighting System

Gudrun Awa Jorsing and Fajara Rotary Club injunction with Denmark Rotary Club on Wednesday inaugurated a solar lighting system at St. Johns School for the Deaf at a colorful ceremony at the school grounds in Kanifing.

According to officials, the project worth D1.3 million.

In his opening remarks, the chairman Parents Teachers Asociation, Mr. Amadou Touray hailed the donors for their support toward the welfare of deaf people in the Gambia.

Mr. Touray assured that the project would be properly taken care off.

The president Fajara Rotary, Musukebba Ceesay thanked all those who contributed towards the success of the project.  She expressed her organisation's willingness in supporting more development projects in the country in future.

A past District Governor from 1990-91 in Denmark, Mr Bent Holm, expressed delight to be associated with the project.

He added that Denmark Rotary Club would continue give more aid to Saint John School for the Deaf in the future.

For his part, the principal of the school, Mr. Daniel Mendy commended the government of The Gambia for giving them the atmosphere to operate and he also commended the donors and Gamsolar for their valuable contribution towards the success completion of the project.

In the same vein, the Denmark Rotary Club donated a cash amounting to $ 22000.00, food stuff and learning materials to the school.
The ceremony was witnessed by staff and pupils, members of the parent teachers association and other dignitaries.
