In a rather curious announcement, the two football clubs which nominated Seedy Kinteh as candidate for Wednesday’s GFF election, Bakau United and Brikama United, said yesterday they have withdrawn his candidature in the interest of peace and security. The two clubs have always maintained that their candidate was not banned.

The statement, signed by Brikama United and Bakau United officials, said Mr Kinteh was nominated with the firm belief that his uniqueness in attaining excellent results had propelled Gambian football to appreciable heights in the recent past.

‘This achievements were retarded by the unfortunate and unwarranted dissolution of the Executive Committee of the Gambia Football Association in which he served as president,’’ the statement added.

Itfurther went on: ‘’Consequently, we wish to inform all the football family that Seedy Kinteh has decided to give his fullest support to Mr Mustapha Kebbeh’s candidature for the president of the Gambia Football Federation, and is asking all and sundry to vote for Mustapha Kebbeh in the forthcoming GFF congress.

Finally, the team representatives said they wish to assure the government and the entire football family that Seedy Kinteh and their clubs “will continue to respect the highest authority in this land, as well as dedicate ourselves to the pursuit of excellence in football development and promotion for the good of our beloved country, The Gambia.”
