A man was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D3,000 in default to serve three months in prison.
Serign Sillah, convicted for obtaining money by false pretence, was also ordered to compensate the complainant D30,000.
The court also ordered that the recovered item be returned to the owner.
The charge sheet read that in February 2011, at Kanifing Estate, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Serign Sillah, with intent to defraud, obtained from one Daga Nyang D30,000 with the representation that he would provide her a sewing machine in exchange of the said money.
The case was presided over by Magistrate Jallow of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
