KWAJEH Ability out to promote disability sports

KWAJEH Ability is an organisation with people dedicated and committed to seeing that disabled people in society are encouraged into sporting activities.

The body aims to achieve this through carefully planned recreational activities, especially sports, which is a universal language.

KWAJEH Ability aims to integrate into recreational programmes, disabled children and youths, who may not have access to such facilities and opportunities.

The main objective of the organisation is to give young people living with disability a sense of belonging, promote sports among people living with disabilities, bridge the gap that exists between able and the disabled.

It also seeks to encourage social interaction, mental and physical development and give educational assistance to the less privilege disabled children and youths.

Speaking in an interview with Pointsport yesterday, the Co-ordinator of KWAJEH Ability, Jankey Jammeh, said that her organisation will be staging a series of sporting activities, starting with Inter-house by Saint John School for the Deaf from 29th to 31st March 2010.

She lamented that they will also organise various training sessions involving communities and special schools.

She added that in May and June they will organise special workshop and lectures for physical education teachers in disabled schools.

Inter-house championships for deaf schools in the country is also in the pipeline.

After commencing their programmes in the Greater Banjul Area the organisation will also work on extending their programmes to the other parts of the country for the benefit of disabled children and youths in the country.
