Friday, January 30, 2009
The Gambia National Football Veteran Association is expected to host a sub-regional football tournament for their counter-parts in the region in July.

In an interview with Pointsports yesterday, Amadou Touray, president of the association, said the idea behind the tournament is to foster the relationship among the football veterans in the sub-region noting that initially the number of participating teams was three but now it has been increased to five.

According to him, the participating countries are Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania, Mali and The Gambia

He added that this year his association wants to engage in a series of competitions noting that at the moment they are engaged in a tournament comprising 10 local teams which is exclusively sponsored by Hatib Janneh Junior, proprietor of Seaview Hotel.

He stated that the winner at the end of the competition in February will received a trophy and a cash price of D25, 000, whilst the runners up will receive D10, 000. The third place team will receive D5, 000.
