Gambia Senior and Sukuta Upper Basic Schools Emerge Champions

Gambia Senior Secondary of Region I and Sukuta Upper Basic Schools of Region II have emerged as winners of the 2008/2009 Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association GSSSA athletic finals held at the Independence Stadium last Sunday.

Gambia Senior Secondary collected 349 points as champions, and Saints with 327 points as runners-up.

 SukutaUpperBasicSchool gathered 149 points as champions, and Gunjur Upper Basic as runners-up amassed 140 points in the Upper Basic category.

During the athletics final 43 athletes came out with first position in all events competed at the senior secondary school category, receiving D250 each.     

As champions, GSSS received a trophy and a cash prize of D 10,000.00 whilst Saint Augustine's SSS received D6, 000.00 as runners-up.

Meanwhile in the UpperBasicSchool category, Sukuta were crowned champions and received a trophy and a cash prize of D10, 000.00 while Gunjur came out second and received D6, 000.00.

Speaking to Pointsports at the end of the event, the Secretary General, Gambia Secondary Schools Association, Alhagie S. Darboe, said the presentation of trophies will be done at a later date that will be communicated to all participating schools.

He revealed that 34 Upper Basic and 28 SeniorSecondary Schools participated in this year's competition.
